The laboratory incorporates operational control into its service portfolio

In January 2023, Royal Decree 3/2023, of January 10, was published, establishing the technical-health criteria for the quality of drinking water, its control and supply, which constitutes the transposition into Spanish law of Directive (EC) 2020/2184 of the European Parliament and which aims to protect people’s health from the adverse effects derived from any contamination of water for human consumption, guaranteeing its healthiness and cleanliness, as well as improving and facilitating access to drinking water.

The new Royal Decree adds more requirements in information to citizens to help generate confidence in the quality of tap water and, at the same time, incorporates new analytical parameters.

One of the novelties included in this new legislation is the OPERATIONAL CONTROL, which aims to provide the operator with a quick overview of the effectiveness of the treatment and water quality problems, and allows for rapid corrective action planned in advance. In the CATCHMENTS it is mandatory to analyze SOMATIC COLIPHAGES and, depending on the results of the hazard identification and risk assessment, it may be necessary to add, among others, the analysis of MICROCISTINA LR or PESTICIDES.

The Ematsa laboratory makes its equipment available for the determination of these new parameters, accredited, as required by RD 3/2023, by the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025 Standard.
